John Hayes was born on 12 August 1917 to William and Mary Hayes.
In 1939 he was living with his widowed mother in Danywern Drive,
and was a certified accountant working as senior audit clerk.
John served as a Pilot Officer with No. 1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit.
On 17th October 1942 he was the nagivator/observer in
De Havilland Mosquito
No. W4058 on a mission to Norway.
The aircraft failed to return and both John and his pilot, Flight Lieutenant Donald Higson were killed.
They are buried together in
Oslo Western Civil Cemetery.
They shall not grow old,
as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
and in morning
We will remember them.
